COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bishop animal shelter now features double-compartment kennels that let dogs remain in place during cleaning (a change from previous practices) and county officials plan facility upgrades (shade, turf and an adoptions building) to boost operations.  The Bradenton Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Three dogs from a Bradenton cruelty case were cleared for adoption after officials reviewed the cases on Jan. 13, and local animal services plan to arrange new homes soon.  ABC7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Sarasota Bradenton International Airport closed out 2025 with record passenger traffic as it welcomed over 4.5 million travelers, with December seeing 417,468 passengers — a 3.05 percent increase from December 2024.  The Bradenton Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local wildlife officials and conservationists in Bradenton warn that feeding pelicans at boat ramps or parks harms the birds’ natural hunting skills and is illegal—first offenses result in fines—and could upset the local ecosystem if the practice continues.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manatee County will launch its new ferry, Manatee Belle, featuring 35 seats inside and 40 outside with air conditioning to shorten travel between downtown Bradenton and Anna Maria Island. The vessel is slated for a first-quarter launch — a move aimed at easing road traffic by listening to customer feedback.  ABC7
  • Manatee County Government offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and waste pickup in unincorporated areas will shift to later in the week. Libraries close for the holiday while transit, parks, and recreation centers maintain modified hours.  The Bradenton Times

  • Former U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu is set to compete at a W35 International Tennis Federation Pro Circuit tournament at Inspiration Tennis Academy in Palma Sola from Jan. 12-18, offering a purse of $30,000. She is the top seed, with Bradenton resident Hina Inoue as the second seed.  The Bradenton Times
