- ➤ The Kart 4 Kids Pro/Am race at Palmetto’s T-4 Kartplex drew hundreds of supporters and top drivers on Feb. 26 to raise funds for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. The annual event — started in 2012 — has grown to support life-saving equipment. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
- ➤ Douglas Brian Dahlquist (62) of Bradenton peacefully passed after a battle with cancer on Feb. 19; his family will celebrate his life at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon with his favorite selections. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Goodwill Manasota has reached 100 million pounds of donated goods diverted from landfills while supporting free job training, veteran services, and food collection programs in the area. The nonprofit operates 10 retail stores and 25 donation centers (with two new sites planned) to boost community services. ABC7

- ➤ Anna Maria’s city pier rebuild is about 75% complete and already drawing crowds and local business interest. The project, costing between $7.2M & $8M, received funds from Manatee County, FEMA & the state, with the city financing it through a bank loan until reimbursements arrive. ABC7

- ➤ Retired NYPD officers and other 9/11 first responders met at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge in Bradenton where new legislation guarantees lifetime healthcare and retroactive benefits for illnesses from their service.
