ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash that happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday on the northbound side of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge caused major delays on I-275 in Manatee County, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rod and Reel Pier moved its restaurant to the Old Hamburg Schnitzelhaus in Holmes Beach after Hurricane Milton washed away the pier—and owner Oliver Lemke said the new space will open next month as he works to get permits for rebuilding.  Bay News 9

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old Bradenton man (Connor Fleener) was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a 2023 hit-and-run on the Palma Sola Causeway after he intentionally struck a pedestrian on Manatee Ave and fled the scene, and he will also serve 15 years of probation.  ABC7
  • Bradenton woman Teresa Zeppi, 60, who was found guilty in a hit-and-run that killed 82-year-old Joseph Dralus Sr. during his daily five-mile walk in 2020, is expected to be sentenced today and could face up to 30 years in prison.  WFLA
  • The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said skeletal remains believed to be Ellenton man Paul Sargent, 87, who went missing on December 10, 2024, were found in a shallow creek near his locked car in East Manatee County — discovered by Sunshine State Sonar volunteers scanning local ponds.  ABC7
