COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Thunder By The Bay raised $310,000 on Apr. 22 during its community fundraiser (supporting local projects). Organizers said the strong backing from residents will help guide future events.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The de Soto Heritage Festival Parade will kick off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Bradenton to celebrate 87 years of heritage and attract over 100,000 visitors. Traffic adjustments on Manatee Avenue are in place for crowd safety — organizer Jeff Nance noted.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Omar Edwards was honored with the Red Apple Award for his service to students (a nod to his commitment to education) on Apr. 22, a recognition celebrated by local education leaders.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SRQ is planning a major expansion that includes a four-level parking structure, rental car turnaround, updated terminal layout, and advanced air mobility trial to boost jobs and ease travel, according to SRQ CEO Paul Hoback (the enhancements follow recent concession upgrades).  ABC7
  • The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office held its annual victims’ rights ceremony Monday morning at the Manatee Fraternal Order of Police Lodge to begin National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, with officials + survivors highlighting support available through the Victim Advocate Unit.  ABC7
  • Crews are installing pedestrian and bicycle detection systems on drawbridges on State Roads 684, 64 and 789 in Manatee County. Motorists should expect intermittent lane and sidewalk closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and work will finish by late spring.  ABC7
