ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man died early Friday after being hit by a car in the 600 block of 13th Ave. E as police reported that the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay

CRIME NEWS

  • A 34-year-old Bradenton man has been charged with six counts of possession of child pornography, one count of soliciting a sexual image of a child and one count of food tampering after investigators linked him to receiving abuse files and performing sexual acts that contaminated food at his former restaurant — he is held on a $260,000 bond.  WFLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dozens of local educators were honored by Rep Vern Buchanan at Manatee Technical College with his Congressional Education Awards—an honor established 11 years ago to recognize outstanding teachers, administrators, and support staff in Florida’s 16th District. Their achievements were also documented in the Congressional Record.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Legislature passed a bill that will require boat owners to pay for removing abandoned vessels that endanger boaters and harm the environment — the measure also introduces a permit for vessels moored over 30 days and a ban on new boat purchases if owners do not comply. Nearly 900 derelict boats have been recorded statewide, and the bill now awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature.  The Bradenton Times

  • Many horses in the Kentucky Derby today have Florida ties with most trained in the state and one having a Suncoast link. One horse—Flying Mohawk, co-owned by former MLB star Jayson Werth and agent Jeff Berry—is represented in Bradenton by Two Eight Racing as it prepares for its first race on dirt.  ABC7
