- ➤ Dr. Francis Tobienne, Jr. is the English department chair at Inspiration Academy in Bradenton and says teaching is his calling. - ➤ On Thursday, FSU researchers warned that state and federal budget cuts could hamper hurricane response this season as state lawmakers remain at a stalemate on the new budget and potential freezes on key programs; experts said changes at FEMA may delay recovery efforts—hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. - ➤ Officials at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport said the facility is using funds from previous hurricane damage to upgrade roofs, improve drainage, install water detection systems, and add a new dual-fuel generator—steps aimed at reducing the impact of severe weather—and they will soon begin a $1.8 million project to replace the baggage claim roof and reinforce terminal doors before the hurricane season starts.
