  • Local officials announced plans to restore a historic cemetery that has long been a community landmark; the restoration, including cleanup and landscaping, is set to begin in the coming weeks to preserve its heritage.  ABC7
  • Boating safety experts urge locals to plan ahead and check life jackets (fire extinguishers, radios, and other gear) before heading out this Memorial Day weekend on Suncoast waterways. They stress no boating under the influence and advise careful navigation amid increased water traffic so everyone can enjoy a safe holiday.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cabana Dogs, a modern Trop-Rock band from Sarasota, will perform live at Clancy's Irish Pub off Cortez Rd. in Bradenton, offering a tropical mix of country, soul, reggae and classic rock (an indoor and outdoor show) at 6218 Cortez Rd West.  The Bradenton Times
  • Island Time Bar and Grill — located on Bridge Street — will host four-piece Nauti Girl Band performing 90s alternative and pop/dance rock covers of hits from the 80s to today. The event offers a lively night for Gen Xers.  The Bradenton Times

  • Confessions of a Traitor will perform at Oscura with special guests *Fight From Within, ExitWounds, Spiritual Chaos, and Foreverless* at the newly relaunched venue in Old Manatee, where they will share raw energy and honest lyrics to offer an emotional escape for local fans.  The Bradenton Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manatee County will close offices, libraries and the Lena Road Landfill on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day + garbage, recycling services and transit schedules will shift while local ceremonies honor fallen service members with events in Bradenton and nearby areas.  Manatee County
  • Congressman Vern Buchanan announced on Monday that 16 local high school students received appointments to U.S. Service Academies (from Manatee and Hillsborough County) in recognition of their leadership and hard work.  The Bradenton Times
