EDUCATION NEWS

  • Manatee County school board members met Tuesday morning to discuss Superintendent Jason Wysong’s contract, and a board member said the meeting aimed to decide whether to support his resignation or termination. The meeting—initiated by board chair Chad Choate amid parental concerns over transparency—also addressed a new compensation package and plans to name an interim leader.  WFLA

  • May brought gratitude and progress in Bradenton as officials honored police officers during Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, recognized teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week and on Mother’s Day, and held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new police headquarters on May 20. The community now prepares for Memorial Day observances, the end of the school year, and the upcoming hurricane season—key reminders to stay alert.  The Bradenton Times
  • In a special meeting Tuesday morning, the Manatee County School Board voted 3-2 to fire superintendent Dr. Jason Wysong for communication issues—despite his improved graduation rates—and named district chief of staff Kevin Chapman as interim superintendent.   • As National Hurricane Preparedness Week ends and the community recovers from three major hurricanes, the Bradenton Fire Department urges residents to prepare for the Atlantic Hurricane Season starting June 1—fire services may be limited during peak storms and residents should know their evacuation zones, review insurance, and secure important documents.
