- ➤ Last week, Allegiant celebrated serving 5 million passengers at SRQ by awarding one lucky traveler free flights for a year on May 22, with local gate parties and online promotions marking the milestone. The Bradenton Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers reached a budget deal that will transfer control of the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus to New College, part of a nearly $115 billion spending plan expected to be approved Friday and begin on July 1. Local students and staff are watching how the change might affect campus resources. ABC7
- ➤ Sarasota Bradenton International Airport renamed Airport Circle to Rick Piccolo Circle in honor of longtime CEO Rick Piccolo following 30 years of service + the board approved the change on Nov. 17 and mapping updates now reflect the new name. ABC7
- ➤ Anna Maria City is rebuilding its pier with a stronger design after hurricanes — over $104,000 was raised through a Rod and Reel Pier fundraiser to support the project. Work is underway to restore the historic structure. ABC7
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Southeast High's Jaylen Lindsey was named ABC7 Athlete of the Month for May. He finished sixth at States in Class 3A and will compete in two summer meets before his senior year as ABC7 and Carl Reynolds Law award him a $500 check for excelling in track + academics. ABC7
- ➤ The 35th annual Minimal Regatta is an upcoming local sailing event in Bradenton & it will bring together community sailors for a day of family-friendly competition. ABC7
