Good morning, Bradenton. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 3rd of June.

CRIME NEWS

  • Bradenton Police investigated a shooting at the downtown Riverwalk where a driver hit a parked vehicle during an argument just before 3:30 p.m. Monday — although one person was injured, no one was hit by gunfire.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A juvenile osprey was rescued Saturday after it was found hanging upside down entangled in synthetic netting on its nest atop a light tower at Blackstone Park in Palmetto — SOS volunteers used a bucket lift to free the bird and it is now cared for by an avian hospital team.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bradenton officials met Monday at the Public Safety Operations Center to fine-tune hurricane plans as the city's new high-water rescue truck stands ready for emergency use; city administrator Rob Perry said Manatee County will use a million-dollar software package that predicts storm impact—helping pre-position equipment before the hurricane season begins.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay
  • Congresswoman Kathy Castor said that federal agencies that forecast, track, and respond to hurricanes have seen deep funding cuts, which may leave local communities less prepared for hurricane season — residents like Nancy Biddle in Pinellas County are already waiting for help. The funding cuts have affected programs such as FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program and Elevate Florida, raising concerns as storm threats grow.  WFLA
  • The National League of Women Voters in Manatee County is launching a yard sign protest to support the Unite+Rise 8.5 campaign, urging locals to display 'Uphold Our Constitution and the Rule of Law' signs until democracy is restored. Signs will be available for pick up from June 8 to June 12 at various local sites with the community set to display them on June 14.  The Bradenton Times
  • Manatee County is seeking qualified candidates for four openings on its nine-member Tourist Development Council—eligible applicants are motel, hotel, or short-term lodging operators and must be registered voters. Applicants must submit forms online by June 30—meeting times vary as the council convenes every other month at 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. at rotating county sites.  The Bradenton Times
