- ➤ Manatee County man Stephen Astbury Jr., 61, was sentenced to nearly five and a half years for strangling Charles Smith and burying his body in a shallow grave in November 2023 at a homeless camp on 14th Street West—he will receive credit for time served while another suspect, Douglas Gray, is set to go to trial later this year.
