- ➤ Manatee County installed hay bales along a half-mile stretch near Cortez Beach to guide nesting sea turtles away from roads after last year's storms removed the protective dunes—officials spent about $30,000 on the weed-free hay and plan to replace it if another storm hits. WFLA
- ➤ Researchers announced that 6,300 pounds of invasive Burmese pythons were removed from Southwest Florida (a record amount under the Conservancy’s program) as efforts continue to protect native wildlife (with over 40,000 pounds removed since 2013). WFLA
