Monitors say shorebird colonies on Anna Maria Island include 27 Black Skimmers and 23 Least Terns nesting, with three Least Tern chicks hatched from June 10 to June 12, and officials advise beachgoers to stay 300 feet away (watch for flightless chick signs).

Wildlife monitors on Anna Maria Island reported 180 sea turtle nests from June 6-12, matching last year’s numbers as they prepare for peak nesting.

Beachgoers are urged to refrain from using lights at night and stay 5-foot from nests - measures to safeguard endangered turtles.
