Good morning, Bradenton.

A new Smart Growth America report finds the North Port, Bradenton and Sarasota metro area recorded 153 pedestrian fatalities between 2020 and 2024 and now ranks 15th deadliest in the nation — Bradenton officials plan to add signage and safety education to reduce risks.

An elderly Ellenton couple lost nearly everything when a mobile-home fire destroyed their longtime house last Saturday; firefighters recovered a few cherished items and neighbors organized fundraisers to cover immediate needs.

Before air conditioning, early locals built homes with wide porches, tall ceilings and sleeping porches (features that captured natural breezes) and shifted work hours to beat the heat; this creative adaptation helped residents manage 90-degree, humid summers in Bradenton long before modern cooling was available.
