ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Keep Manatee Beautiful is asking for 300 volunteers to plant 12,000 sea oats on Anna Maria Island on July 26 to rebuild dunes hurt by last year's hurricanes. The project will help stop erosion and flooding — volunteers can sign up on the organization's website. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
- ➤ Volunteers planted 600 Sea Oats on Coquina Beach South Monday to help fight storm surge and erosion — their deep roots secure the dunes. Keep Manatee Beautiful will hold a larger event on July 26 at Bradenton Beach with over 300 volunteers to plant 12,000 Sea Oats. ABC7

- ➤ Holmes Beach passed an ordinance on June 23 that bans metal shovels and gardening tools from digging holes on the beach for safety reasons—officials say the move aims to protect both wildlife and beach visitors. - ➤ Authorities announced that the busy I-75 off-ramp will close for planned roadwork soon and drivers will follow posted detour signs. Officials said the project will last several days—please plan extra travel time. ABC7
