- ➤ Juan Victor Santizhernandez was convicted on charges of Driving Without a Valid Driver's License Causing Death, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and Tampering with Evidence for a fatal hit-and-run accident in September 2023 that killed Hoang Vuong at the US 41 North and 7th St. W intersection in Palmetto — his sentencing will be held on August 20. - ➤ On July 4, Waterside Place in Lakewood Ranch will host the Star-Spangled Spectacular from 6 to 9 p.m. that will feature circus acts, carnival games, a kids zone, local eats, a magic and mentalism show at 7, a circus show at 8 and a drone show at 9. A complimentary trolley will run from 5:30 to 10 p.m. — Waterside Park will be closed all day for setup and seating is limited. The Bradenton Times

- ➤ Manatee County's emergency management chief, Matt Myers, met on Thursday morning with leaders in Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach, and Holmes Beach to review storm tracking plans using the Peregrine software (which boosts real-time monitoring and communication); he will next meet with City of Bradenton officials to continue the preparations. - ➤ Bradenton leaders are moving forward as new community partnerships take shape and plans for leadership transitions are in place. The city marked Juneteenth with the unveiling of an African American Heritage Trail marker honoring the Bradenton Nine Devils + will hold a united Fourth of July celebration and swear in a new Chief of Police in July.
