- ➤ Volunteers on Anna Maria Island report that sea turtle nests are increasing, with 71 nests recorded this week (69 loggerhead and 2 green) and a record 12 green turtle nests expected this season. They advise residents to keep beach areas dark and clear of obstacles so hatchlings can find their way to the Gulf. ABC7

- ➤ On Friday, Manatee County Commission Chair George Kruse blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis for signing SB 180, a law that prevents local communities from adopting tougher land use rules—such as expanding wetland buffers—for another year. He also noted the bill includes language that may limit local home rule until at least Oct 2027. The Bradenton Times

- ➤ Manatee County Animal Welfare suspended feline intake at Bishop Animal Shelter after a confirmed outbreak of panleukopenia, and the shelter will pause operations for two weeks for deep cleaning, medical treatment, and vaccination efforts (with Cat Town remaining open for adoptions).
