  • Local nonprofit Our Next Mission has a two-bedroom, partially furnished unit available in Pescara Lake Mobile Home Park for veterans in need of safe housing. The home will be ready for occupancy next week for honorably discharged veterans who pass background checks—partners include Manatee County Habitat for Humanity, Lakewood Ranch Rotary Club, and the mobile home park—supporting this local housing effort.  The Bradenton Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officers responded at 10:37 p.m. on July 8 to a crash at the 4200 block of 59th Street West in Bradenton — a truck struck a motorcycle, killing one rider and sending another to the hospital.  WFLA
  • Bradenton Police said a pickup truck collided with a motorcycle on 59th Street West Monday night at 10:37 p.m.+ the crash left one person dead and another hospitalized, prompting police to close the road between Cortez Road and 40th Avenue West during the investigation.  ABC Action News

  • Families can register to attend the free Make It Take It series at the Manatee County Agricultural Museum in July—offering hands-on stations with activities on two time slots, 9:30-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.—across July 16, 23, and 30; registration is required due to limited space.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After deadly flooding in Texas, Florida emergency officials warned on July 7 that river levels—like the Alafia cresting 23 feet after Hurricane Helene—could lead to dangerous conditions this hurricane season.   • Bradenton welcomed its new police chief when Josh Cramer was sworn in at the Chips Shore Historical Courtroom this morning with family, friends, and colleagues present. Cramer began his career in 1995 and served as assistant chief from 2016 until retiring in 2022—he will now lead the department following Chief Melanie Bevan's 39-year tenure.  WFLA
  • Manatee County Veterans Services has partnered with Bay Area Legal Services to start free monthly legal clinics for veterans at its Bradenton office this month—offering guidance on civil issues like housing, benefits and family law in the conference room at 1401 3rd Ave W.  The Bradenton Times
