- ➤ Longboat Key police arrested Damien Garvin—charged with shooting night manager Timothy Hurley and security guard Kevin Carter during a 2017 armed robbery at Zota Beach Resort—and he will appear in court on August 22. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch reported that over 2,600 baby sea turtles hatched this season from 502 nests, including 12 green turtle nests that match the 2023 record—rescuers helped hatchlings that got trapped in holes or pools. Beachgoers are asked to check their pools and repair holes to help the turtles safely reach the ocean. WFLA

- ➤ The City of Bradenton approved the purchase of a damaged property at 2502 Riverside Drive East for $441,000 to install a temporary lift station that will serve about 170 homes while the city upgrades its aging wastewater system — despite contested deed issues involving former councilman Bill Sanders.
