ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A state fire investigator ruled that a June 14 Bradenton house fire—caused by unattended candle use—killed 4-year-old Logan Jason Hajimihalis and injured his mother, Tara Horsley, who escaped with burns and smoke inhalation.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Steve Junot has played over 5000 gigs in his 20-year career (he credits his longevity to playing songs that match the crowd's mood). Performing at Flamingo Bay Brewing Co., he reads the audience to switch between relaxed tunes and upbeat hits for a fun night.  The Bradenton Times
  • The Frayed Knot Band, formed in 1992 in Manatee County and winner of the Suncoast Blues Society Challenge, represented Florida at the Blues Foundation's International Challenge in Memphis in 1993—now they perform eclectic blues at McCabe's Irish Pub in downtown Bradenton.  The Bradenton Times
  • Speak Easy has been a key part of our local music scene since they met at USFSP in 2017 and have played across Florida at events like Gasparilla Music Festival — they released their debut album To Make a Man in 2024.   • Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium received $250,000 on July 21 from state Rep. Danny Nix for its strategic snook shock enhancement initiative—28,000 juvenile snook were released into local waters to help boost the local sport fishing industry.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, July 21, the Manatee County Clerk's Office reported it held $64,914.35 in unclaimed funds from 818 checks for jury duty, court fee refunds, and vendor invoices. Residents must claim any funds they are owed by September 1 or the money will be forfeited.  ABC7
