- ➤ Lakewood Ranch is hosting two restaurant weeks—A Taste of Waterside Place runs from July 25 to August 1 and A Taste of Main Street runs from August 2 to August 9—with eighteen restaurants offering two-course brunches for $25 or three-course dinners for $35. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Manatee County utility crews unearthed a fossilized claw from a giant ground sloth yesterday while digging a trench for a waterline. The 11,000-year-old find has been sent to the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature for preservation+eventual display. FOX 13 Tampa Bay

- ➤ Local government officials in Bradenton will hold a busy week of meetings as the budget season nears its end— the Manatee County Commission reconvenes after its summer break. Other groups will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at local venues. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ The Manatee Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller is holding $64,914.35 in unclaimed funds from 818 checks for court-related payments, and residents in Bradenton should check if they are entitled to any of the money. Those funds will be forfeited if not claimed by September 1—contact the Accounting Division for claim instructions. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Students will return to school on August 11 and Bradenton's school zone speed cameras will resume operation during school hours to enforce the speed limit. Police noted that drivers exceeding the limit by more than 10 mph will be fined $100—after speeds reached up to nearly 80 mph on local residential streets last school year. WFLA
