- ➤ A man drowned early Monday at the Fountain Lakes Apartments pool after more than two dozen people were swimming—bystanders started CPR before deputies and paramedics arrived, but he died shortly after 2 a.m. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
- ➤ Monday afternoon, a 48-year-old Bradenton man driving a van towing a trailer lost control on I-75 just north of Bee Ridge Road, overturning the vehicle and seriously injuring him and a 31-year-old Bradenton passenger—both taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital—and causing a traffic backup that stretched over six miles while investigators review the crash. - ➤ Manatee man Douglas Naeher is accused of attempting to murder his wife, Stephanie, during a boating trip off the coast of Bean Point after he assaulted her, threw her phone into the ocean, fled the scene, and returned to attack her again, and he is ineligible for bond as a registered sexual offender. - ➤ Today, the Manatee County Commission will discuss a $13.5 million deal to buy the former Mixon Fruit Farm at 2525 27th Street E—a 39-acre property that has been a popular tourist and event venue since 1939. County staff plan to manage the site for public events, water quality education, and library system expansion, with the deal set to close on or before Sept 12. ABC7
