🌲 Environment
Manatee County voters approved a local tax in 2020 to buy more environmental land, but a 2025 report shows that only 14% of its roughly 474,000 acres are conserved compared with higher percentages in nearby counties—Sarasota at 33% and Charlotte at 42%.
Since the vote, the county added nearly 5,000 acres, including lands for Crooked River and Emerson Point preserves, but it still struggles to find large parcels as developers buy them.
