- ➤ Two teens died and two others were seriously injured early Saturday morning in a single-car crash on Silverleaf Avenue near U.S. Highway 301 when a 19-year-old driver from Ellenton lost control of his Dodge Charger at about 2:15 a.m.—Florida Highway Patrol said the driver was speeding—and the investigation continues. - ➤ At 2:15 a.m. Saturday, a Dodge Charger crashed into several trees on Silverleaf Ave near US-301 — the incident killed two 19-year-olds and hospitalized a 17-year-old in critical condition and a 16-year-old in serious condition as the teens sped south, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. - ➤ Opposition is growing to SB 180—a Florida law meant to speed up post-disaster repairs that now limits local governments from setting land-use rules. - ➤ On Thursday, Manatee County commissioners debated whether to end a reimbursement agreement with Lakewood Ranch Corporate Park for a roundabout at University Parkway at Legacy Boulevard and Deer Drive—resulting in a tie vote that left the project unchanged. - ➤ FDOT has reinstalled flashing 20 mph school safety lights along State Road 70 in Oneco to protect students returning to Oneco Elementary for the upcoming school year.
