  • Betty Lane Barczak, a longtime Bradenton resident who worked during World War II, died peacefully at 100 with family at her bedside on Aug 3 at Westminster Point Pleasant. A funeral Mass is set for Sept 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church with a private burial to follow.  The Bradenton Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car veered off the 220 exit ramp from I-75 just after 5 a.m. Sunday—tow trucks removed the vehicle as the Florida Highway Patrol launched its investigation.  ABC7

CRIME NEWS

  • Detectives said on Saturday that the decomposed body found Friday in a retention pond may be Giovanni Pelletier, the 18-year-old who went missing on Aug. 1 while vacationing, though a medical examiner has not yet confirmed his identity due to heavy decomposition—further tests are underway.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay

  • Senator Rick Scott and Representative Vern Buchanan have proposed bills to let states keep daylight saving time all year, but Congress has not yet acted on the measures + people will still set their clocks back on November 2 as the law remains unchanged + the discussion continues as lawmakers look for a new approach.  WFLA
