CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 18-year-old Giovanni Pelletier whose body was found partially submerged in a retention pond near I-75 and State Road 70 after he went missing on August 1 while visiting family—medical examiners did not detect signs of trauma and are testing to determine the cause of death. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Children returned to school on Monday in Manatee County as the district used its surplus—after raising bus driver pay to over $23 an hour—to support 97 routes with more than 100 drivers. A new Lakewood Ranch K-8 opened for roughly 600 kindergarten to fifth-grade students, with plans to add older grades next August, and officials asked drivers to be patient as routines readjust. ABC7
- ➤ A new Florida law requires public school teachers and staff from kindergarten to eighth grade to learn how to spot severe allergic reactions+ and use an EpiPen to treat anaphylaxis.
