- ➤ On August 21, the Manatee Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards gala at the Bradenton Area Convention Center to honor local small businesses and nonprofits for growth, customer service, and job creation—Credit Union 1 was the presenting sponsor and six winners were selected from 32 finalists out of more than 200 nominations. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Manatee County Schools installed the new Evolv weapons detection system in every middle school to screen students faster and with less intrusion—two trained guardians now monitor the system daily. The system will also be used at after-school events—helping to maintain campus safety. ABC7

- ➤ The League of Women Voters of Manatee County observed the County Commission meeting on August 19 and noted issues with a failed motion to end roundabout contract talks—along with discussions on the port budget, opioid funding, and a proposed library study.
