Good morning, Bradenton. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 30th of August.

- ➤ Data from the Mangrove Rangers program shows that hurricanes in 2024 reduced mangrove canopy in Sarasota and Manatee counties, with a protected site in Sarasota Bay losing almost half its canopy (score dropping from 90 to 59) on World Mangrove Day (July 26th). Other monitoring sites in Sarasota and Palma Sola Bays showed signs of resilience with increased canopy volume. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Manatee County residents fought for more care for the Myakka River as state law may delay action, and the Myakka River Management Coordinating Council emailed commissioners on August 20 asking for a rule that sets houses back (150 feet) to slow new development near the river. Advocates say ongoing building could harm the wild Florida areas that local families value. Bay News 9
