ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A body found Monday near Anna Maria Island was identified as 20-year-old Abhigyan Patel, a swimmer who drowned off Bean Point after he and a friend were caught in a riptide and the friend was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. WFLA
- ➤ Florida Highway Patrol responded on September 2 at the South Skyway fishing pier on I-275 and found a single vehicle and a deceased person—troopers are investigating the case. WFLA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bradenton Police and Fire Department rescued ducklings from a storm drain after a mother duck led her flock across a road and half fell through a sewer grate—officers then handed the ducklings to an officer until wildlife experts took custody. ABC Action News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Manatee County joined 10 other local governments in suing the state over Senate Bill 180 because county leaders say the law favors developers by weakening promised wetland protections—officials expect the lawsuit to be filed by mid-September. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
- ➤ On Tuesday, Manatee County Commissioners voted 6-1 to let the county attorney sign a contract with a Fort Lauderdale firm that will join a class action suit challenging SB 180—a law signed last June that changes local land development rules. The county, the second government to join the suit, will pay $10,000 and the case is expected to be filed later this month. The Bradenton Times
