- ➤ The City of Anna Maria Island declared a no swim zone at Bean Point after 20-year-old Abhigynan Patel drowned last weekend and four others were rescued, and city officials are working with Manatee County to install permanent safety signs — a step to warn visitors about strong currents. - ➤ Manatee County officials installed a lightning detection system at a local beach last week — the system gives a 15–20 minute warning before a possible lightning strike and sounds a 15-second alarm to clear the area.
