Anna Maria Island declared a no-swim zone at Bean Point after six incidents in August including two drownings—city officials said the move aims to save lives with new signs posted from Fern Street to the former Rod and Reel Pier and additional safety measures coming soon.

The Island Players Theater (10009 Gulf Dr) will host a songwriter night on September 28 featuring live music by local singer/songwriters Mike Sales, Dean Johanesen, and Sara Nelms.

Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the door (doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.).

Sea turtle nesting nearly ended on Anna Maria Island as volunteer patrols reported only 100 nests remained on the beaches—daily checks recorded nearly 28,000 hatchlings emerging at a 69% success rate while 140 nests showed hatchling disorientation from artificial lighting.

On Friday evening just before 8 p.m., residents across Manatee County saw a waterspout form as storms moved through the area—photos and videos captured the event from Palmetto and Anna Maria Island, and the Sheriff’s Office reported no damage.
