EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The League of Women Voters of Manatee County Education Issues Committee observed the Manatee County School Board meeting on September 9 where board members approved the final budget and millage rates for 2025-2026 and adopted a new contract for Superintendent Dr. Laurie Breslin. Dr. Breslin was sworn in and received a standing ovation as her contract was set to run until June 30—with performance bonuses included for meeting academic goals. The Bradenton Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Manatee County Commissioners approved a .05 millage cut for FY26-27 during the first budget hearing on September 10—saving property owners about $20 a year on a $400,000 home and reducing revenue by $3.7 million. They also approved a $2.29 billion five-year Capital Improvement Plan focused on transportation and public safety. The Bradenton Times
