CRIME NEWS

  • About 2,000 people gathered in a Bradenton park to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated days ago in Utah at a Turning Point event, while local leader Jay Collins urged supporters to continue his mission without violence—honoring his legacy.  ABC Action News

CULTURE NEWS

  • GT Bray Park will host the Annual Goblin Gathering for kids and families on October 17 from 4 to 8 p.m.—the event will feature inflatables, a petting zoo, treats distributed by local sponsors and costume contests with prizes.  Manatee County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tammy Harper of Lakewood Ranch High School, named this week's A+ Teacher, draws on a background of past challenges to help each of her 185 students succeed using a hands-on approach. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 8, a filter overflow at the City of Bradenton sewage treatment facility spilled 1.7 million gallons of sewage into the Manatee River—operators shut down aerators and opened bypass valves to control the flow with normal conditions restored by 4:25 a.m. as the facility undergoes mandated upgrades.  The Bradenton Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bradenton’s City Council said that construction on the 2nd Avenue East Streetscape will soon start with drainage and traffic improvements between 24th Street East and 21st Street East. The project will be built in phases—adding sidewalks, trees, lighting, and bike lanes—to make the downtown corridor safer and easier for everyone.  The Bradenton Times

  • Dylan Walker, a senior and captain of the Out of Door Academy Thunder football team, is named this week’s ABC7 Athlete as his team started the season 3-1. He is leading fundraising efforts for the Suncoast Disaster Recovery Fund—supporting those still recovering from last year’s hurricanes and inspiring his teammates to give back.  ABC7
