- ➤ In 1914, Orrin Burt Sias and Edyth Robinson Sias opened Bradenton’s first ice cream factory on Main Street—supported by local ice deliveries—while the town was growing. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ For over six months, local groups and farmers have urged Floridians to support farms by buying Fresh from Florida products and by voting for a 2026 ballot measure to ease yearly taxes on farm equipment — a change meant to keep food production sustainable. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Manatee County meeting on September 16, the Myakka Management Coordinating Council showed graphs that revealed the river is becoming cloudier and more polluted, but Senate Bill 180 stops county officials from adding better rules to protect the water. County officials plan to explore other options such as better monitoring and more inspections—steps they hope will help the river until stronger protections can be created. The Bradenton Times
