Good morning, Bradenton.
At the September 10 City Council meeting, Dr. Dave Tomasko from the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program explained that the Palma Sola Bay Source Identification Study is checking for bacteria sources in the bay, with early tests showing horse-related bacteria made up less than 1% and long-term data rating the water’s health as good to excellent for nearly two decades — the City will work with partners to provide more fact-based updates as the study proceeds.
Pinellas County voters asked their legislative delegation to pause redistricting until after the 2030 census—Equal Ground field manager Simon Adams said the delay would allow more local input on fair maps.
Critics say that changes approved by Gov. DeSantis have raised concerns over racial gerrymandering as the Florida House forms a select committee to review redistricting guidelines.
The Bradenton Fire Department is partnering with NFPA to promote Fire Prevention Week from October 5—11 and urges residents to charge devices with lithium-ion batteries safely to prevent fires.
Manatee County is accepting applications for three seats on its Historic Preservation Board — a citizen advisory group that reviews historic certificates.
Board members will serve a four-year term, meet in the County Administrative Building, and applications must be submitted by October 15.
