CULTURE NEWS

  • International blues singer Thornetta Davis, who was honored by the Detroit Blues Society, will perform at Flamingo Bay Brewing Company with Cottonmouth—Dave from BirdRock cooking will serve food for the event.  The Bradenton Times
  • Peace Cult, an alternative rock band from Tampa, will perform Mean Grrrls Night today at Oscura in Old Manatee—doors open at 7 p.m. with music starting at 7:30 p.m. and admission free for those 21+ while under 21 pay $10.  The Bradenton Times
  • Jack'D Up is an award-winning rock cover band that performs live at Clancy's Irish Sport Pub in Bradenton—its shows energize local fans with rock music played without back tracks. The band reformed in 2021 and has since earned five Reader Choice Awards for best local rock band.  The Bradenton Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The School District of Manatee County and the Manatee Education Association reached a tentative agreement for the 2025-2026 school year — the plan gives retroactive salary increases to begin July 1 and will be reviewed by staff before going to the School Board for ratification.  The Bradenton Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jordan Varnadore—who is running for Florida House District 71—sent personal birthday texts with a video to Palmetto voters and later followed up with a donation request as part of his new campaign strategy. His messages included the required disclaimer and opt-out instructions to meet legal guidelines.  The Bradenton Times
  • A Bradenton mom with failing liver pleaded with ICE to release her detained husband so he can help care for their children as she awaits a liver transplant. Her husband was taken four months ago after a traffic stop—he is set to have his final hearing next month.  ABC Action News
  • Twenty-five local governments filed a lawsuit in Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit on Monday to block Senate Bill 180, which freezes land-use rules after hurricanes. The suit alleges the law—sponsored by state Sen. Nick DiCeglie—violates the state constitution by limiting home rule and harming local recovery.  The Bradenton Times
