- ➤ The Food Bank of Manatee is hosting its annual Stuff the Bus food drive on Sunday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—donations will be collected at 19 Publix locations to help families in need as volunteers load school buses with nonperishable food and cash contributions for distribution. ABC7
- ➤ A beehive in a Bradenton neighborhood became a training exercise for Manatee County first responders on October 2nd when a bee expert and his team removed it from a tree on Riverview Blvd—first responders from multiple fire, EMS, and hazard crews used the situation to hone their skills while ensuring the bees, including the queen, were safely relocated. The exercise helped prepare teams for future emergencies without endangering the community or the bees. FOX 13 Tampa Bay
- ➤ On Sept. 26, a Bradenton family said Allegiant Airlines removed them from flight 1019 when a flight attendant told them to keep their dog in its carrier even though they followed the pet rules. The family, who were traveling with their disabled daughter and service dog, were rebooked on Sept. 29 but were left stranded in Colorado without essentials—adding extra hardship to their trip. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Florida's hurricane season has been quiet so far, but meteorologists warn that October can bring surprise storms driven by warm Caribbean waters. The National Hurricane Center expects no new systems in the next seven days—however, a potential gyre over Central America may fuel late storms that could affect Bradenton before the season ends on Nov. 30. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Anna Maria officials approved the bid to rebuild the pier by choosing Tampa Bay Marine Inc. The base bid is $4.64 million (total cost is estimated at $6.2 to $6.9 million) and the pier deck will be built above water by March 31. ABC7
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Since Oct. 1, more than 300 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities enrolled in the new Florida Community Care program that now serves 700 individuals.
