Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 3rd of October.
Good morning, Bradenton.
🎓 Education
Incumbent Cindy Spray and educator Sharon Jefferson will face a runoff election on the November ballot for Manatee School Board District 2.
Spray, known for her decisive vote on superintendent leadership, and Jefferson, a veteran with extensive experience in District 2 schools (including Title I initiatives), set the stage for a key local contest.
🌲 Environment
Over the past four years, the Braden River’s waters have lost nearly all fish + birds and local environmental agencies have not taken action despite warnings from marine experts, raising concern that the ecosystem and recreational fishing may suffer further damage.
Sea turtle nesting season on Anna Maria Island is ending with five nests remaining and 17,513 hatchlings produced, a drop linked to beach erosion.
Protection ordinances remain in effect (May 1-Oct. 31) to guide turtle-friendly lighting, and AMITW will host a fundraiser on Oct. 21 at Hurricane Hanks.
