- ➤ Meals on Wheels held a food drive Sunday, October 5th in Manatee County where school buses parked outside 19 Publix locations collected food, money, or donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—volunteer Mason Peters, who helped with the program since third grade, said he was happy to support the community as final figures will be announced later. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Musician Zion from Dominica, inspired by Bob Marley, released his sixth album World Revolution in 2017 and is now recording his seventh album, Justice & Equality, with drummer Anthony Wilburn Cole & bassist Christopher Meredith at studios in Florida and Jamaica. He will appear live at The Ugly Grouper Bar & Grill on Anna Maria Island, where the venue hosts music Thursday through Sunday and karaoke every Wednesday. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Sam Morrow, a rising force in American roots music, will perform his blend of roadhouse rock — bluesy R&B and country-fried funky-tonk — at Cottonmouth in Bradenton, where cover is $15 ADV and $20 DOS. Fans can expect an energetic evening of live music that showcases his unique sound. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Leading Cuban jazz pianist Jorge Luis Pacheco will perform at Fogartyville on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.—doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets cost $25 for members, $30 for non-members and $15 for students. Pacheco blends Cuban jazz, Afro Cuban music, American jazz and classical music in his performance. The Bradenton Times
- ➤ Oscura Presents: Beeline is a music show featuring band members Brendan Lyons, Matt Bielasiak, Brian Ferguson, Diego Vasquez, and Aaron O'malley, who met in recording studios and college and now perform out of South Florida. The event at OSCURA in Old Manatee has doors opening at 7 PM—music starts at 7:30 PM and it offers free entry for those 21 and over, while guests under 21 pay $10 and those under 18 must be with a parent or guardian. - ➤ Daylight saving time ends on November 2 when clocks will be set back one hour and residents will see earlier sunrises and sunsets. Lawmakers in many states—Florida among them—tried to lock the clock changes but Congress has not approved any proposals. WFLA
