EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, families lined up at the new Mote Science Education Aquarium which offers hands-on exhibits and a 24-foot tank with sharks and fish. Mote Marine VP Kevin Cooper said the center will host free visits for 70,000 K-12 students—boosting local sea science education.  WFLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, unincorporated Manatee County started the Big Bin Advantage program which consolidates trash, recycling and yard waste into one weekly pickup—each household received a new 96-gallon rolling trash bin and must load it with items that fit inside with the lid closed, while blue recycling bins and proper yard waste containers are still used; officials will monitor the system and remove old bins if requested within 30 days.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay
