CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, Bradenton police visited five malnourished dogs rescued from a home on 10th Ave. West after an aggravated animal abuse case—three pit bulls, a Great Dane mix, and a Cane Corso were found, with one Great Dane mix gaining 7 lbs and two dogs set for adoption soon.  WFLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sarasota-based band Passerine will perform its Ameri-Kinda-Grass show Friday, October 24th at 7:00 pm at the Building Bridges Coffeehouse at Manatee UU Fellowship in downtown Bradenton — seating is open and a $20 donation is suggested with refreshments available.  The Bradenton Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Transportation is asking residents in Palmetto and Terra Ceia for input on safety upgrades at key intersections. A public meeting is held today at the Manatee County Fairground from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—a virtual option is also available.  ABC Action News
  • Longboat Key held a town hall workshop meeting Monday at 1 p.m. to discuss a potential renaming of Gulf of Mexico Drive after House Bill 549 led the DOT to remove its signage on State Road 789—town manager Howard Tipton noted that about 80% of the community feedback favored keeping the name despite concerns over the cost and effort involved in a change.  WFLA
