COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 30th, a Bradenton officer responded to a call about aggressive dogs and found a lost dog that was friendly; he secured the pet for further care. Local services will follow up to help the animal return to its owner.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Creative teens in Manatee County will experience being a pro artist at the Student Art Contest sponsored by The Parrish Arts Council during the 10th anniversary of the East2West Arts & Craft Market. The contest, which offers a People’s Choice award with gift certificates ($100 for first prize, $50 for second prize), is set for November 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and November 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bradenton Area Convention Center (1 Haben Blvd).  The Bradenton Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manatee County has offered financial help for low-income and Special Needs homeowners to repair or replace homes since October 30 with 0% interest-deferred payments over 20 years. Eligible residents in Unincorporated areas and Palmetto must apply by 5:00 p.m. on November 14—county staff will hold a lottery drawing on November 21—and more applications will open on December 15.  Manatee County
  • Manatee County will host a "Mixon In Bloom" event on November 7 at 10 a.m. at 2525 27th Street East in Bradenton to mark its purchase of the former Mixon Fruit Farms—county staff, local organizations, and volunteers will then work to plant new greenery and clean the grounds until 1 p.m.  The Bradenton Times
  • Manatee County Tiger Bay Club held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the affordable housing crisis caused by high rents and few available homes in our area. Speakers from One Stop Housing, Goodwill of Manasota, and Habitat for Humanity said that unchecked greed blocks new workforce housing while District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard noted new help like a women’s shelter and Fresh Start program—showing slow progress.  ABC7
