- ➤ On Thursday, IMG Academy honored its first Hall of Fame class by inducting tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Kei Nishikori, baseball great John Ryan Murphy, golf star Paula Creamer and longtime leader Chip McCarthy; Murphy, a Suncoast native who caught the final out of Mariano Rivera’s Hall of Fame career, spoke with current student-athletes while McCarthy received a lifetime achievement award — he has guided the academy since 1991. - ➤ The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that 19-year-old Konnor Griffin, who started his season with the Bradenton Marauders, has earned two awards (Honus Wagner Player of the Year and Bill Mazeroski Defender of the Year) for his play in the minor leagues.
