COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mosaic and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have joined forces to tackle hunger in the Tampa Bay region and Suncoast communities—each partner provided 65,842 meals to Feeding Tampa Bay to help ease food insecurity. The effort builds on Mosaic’s ongoing support for local food programs.  ABC7
  • Forty restaurants nationwide are offering free meals and discounts for veterans and active-duty military today; many offers include free entrees, bounce back cards and special discount codes available with a valid military ID — local branches in Bradenton are expected to honor these promotions while supplies last.  WFLA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A gas leak was reported in Bradenton on Nov. 10—emergency crews responded and tested the area while officials advised residents to follow safety precautions.  ABC7
  • A crash in Ybor City that took four lives has prompted Florida cities to review street safety and Bradenton officials said their in-ground barrier system will be used at public events to help keep people safe—officials stressed the move comes after the tragedy.  ABC7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Construction has begun on the Anna Maria Island pier that was destroyed by hurricanes last year and local business owner Morgan Bryant said the returning ferry will boost her shop's traffic. Officials expect the pier to be completed by March 31, 2026—its rebuild costing between $6.2 million and $6.9 million.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Maine-born blues musician Zack Pomerleau, who plays drums and harmonica for award-winning band Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones and performs solo around Tampa Bay, will perform live at The Cortez Kitchen—a waterfront venue known for fresh seafood and live music—engaging local fans with his dynamic act.  The Bradenton Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, charter school operators can request classroom space at low-enrollment public schools, with a Miami-based charter operator showing interest in five schools in Manatee and Sarasota districts. Pat Barber of the Manatee Education Association said the school board must reassure parents and use legal steps to block Schools of Hope—State Sen. Darryl Rouson has filed a bill to change the co-location law.  WFLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manatee County officials approved an expansion of the Emergency Vehicle Preemption Project that will outfit 95 intersections and the entire EMS fleet with technology to change traffic lights by next fall—each green light saved 11 seconds in the pilot, proving faster ambulance response helps hospitals. The successful pilot from 2024 shows that every second counts in emergencies.  WFLA
  • Regional cold-weather shelters opened yesterday in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties and will open again tomorrow to help residents cope with dropping temperatures. The Salvation Army in Bradenton and other agencies are offering overnight refuge with set check-in times and meal support—officials remind residents to secure pets and use caution with home heating.  ABC7
