Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 15th of November.
Good morning, Bradenton.
🏘️ Community
Local citizens and county officials celebrated a ceremony on November 7 that turned the struggling Mixon Fruit Farms into Mixon Farms—an agricultural education site that will host weddings, markets, and community gardens.
The grassroots project, launched after new commissioners were voted in, is set to boost local business while some question its spending.
📰 Economy
The Suncoast job market stayed stable after a federal shutdown affected government work.
Local businesses said hiring held steady and overall employment did not drop significantly.
🌲 Environment
The November Natural Resources Action Team Meeting in Manatee County will feature a talk by former VP Al Gore on why climate action is unstoppable (climate realism is a myth) and include a moderated discussion on local climate change issues.
Attendees should register early so organizers can plan the amount of flavored fizzy water needed.
📰 Lifestyle
Eleanor and Lyle Gittens were crowned the world’s oldest married couple by Guinness Book of World Records and were married in Bradenton on June 4— they credit love and a daily martini as the secret to a long-lasting union that grew to include three children, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
🏈 Sports
Drake Corbino was named the Florida State League Visiting Clubhouse Manager of the Year after a Tuesday ceremony in the Pirate City cafeteria where Bradenton Marauders general manager Craig Warzecha announced the honor; he was recognized for his careful work in creating a welcoming clubhouse experience for opposing teams—earning high marks in visitor surveys. His 18 years with the Pirates have shaped his detailed approach during the season and special events like the upcoming fantasy camps.
