COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Senior Friendship Center announced it will hand out turkeys for Thanksgiving to seniors—this annual event will take place at the center to support local holiday celebrations.  ABC7
  • Nydia Rodriguez, a valued pastor and teacher, passed away on November 9 in Bradenton. A visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m. at Brown and Sons Funeral Homes and Crematory and a committal service will follow on November 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Manasota Memorial Park.  The Bradenton Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A family of manatees and a playful dolphin were seen swimming near Bradenton waters yesterday, delighting local residents. The sighting has sparked interest in the area’s marine life.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manatee County officials said that recovery from the hurricane is ongoing as projects on homes and roads move forward—residents expect rebuilding to take years—and local agencies are coordinating additional efforts. Funding and repair plans are being organized to address remaining damage.  ABC7
  • Manatee County commissioners named the new Veterans facility Valor Commons on November 18 following a 6-1 vote to launch a Veterans Connection Hub and Memorial Campus along Buckeye Road east of Artisan Lakes Parkway. The project will include a resource center, memorial areas, and public event spaces and is planned to be managed by a nonprofit over a 12 to 18-month phase before campus construction is completed over 3 to 5 years.  Manatee County
