Good morning, Bradenton. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 23rd of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Nov. 22, the Safe Children Coalition distributed 450 Thanksgiving meals to local families. The charity did this ahead of the holiday season — reaching those in need.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Manatee County has long seen Thanksgiving celebrated in many ways, from family meals under the oaks to river picnics and open-air feasts. Stories from the early 1900s tell of cow hunters who cooked turkeys outdoors and even used a bottle of whiskey for a stingray sting (a practice on the Manatee River), showing that Florida made the holiday its own.  The Bradenton Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakewood Ranch High School has faced recurring mold issues as teachers, students, and families reported health concerns and visible mold in several buildings. District officials hired industrial hygienists to test air quality and will release a detailed cleanup plan before winter break—steps meant to ensure a safer campus.  The Bradenton Times
  • At the November 18 meeting, the Manatee County School Board elected Cindy Spray as chair with five votes and Mr. Tatem as vice chair with unanimous support—members also revised the calendar for 2025–26 to reschedule a meeting during graduation week and move workshops to Tuesdays. Superintendent Breslin thanked the board for a smooth reorganization and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.  The Bradenton Times
