COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bradenton farmers market will take place on Sunday with local vendors offering fresh produce and handmade goods—organizers expect a favorable turnout based on current weather forecasts. Attendees are advised to check vendor listings and arrive early to enjoy the event.  ABC7
  • Tanner’s Turkeys, a nonprofit that has fed Suncoast families for 15 years, used 90 volunteers to pack 800 Thanksgiving food bags at Bayside community church on Sunday (Detwilers provided insulated bags to aid packing).  ABC7
  • The Salvation Army of Manatee County will serve a free Thanksgiving meal on November 27th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at its downtown Bradenton campus (5328 24th Street East) and is expected to provide over 200 complete plates that include turkey, bread, stuffing, a vegetable, dessert and a drink.  The Bradenton Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local Honey featuring Emily Baar on vocals and David Muñoz on guitar plays a mix of nostalgic musicals and Latin rhythms at Fiorelli Winery — a venue that has offered wine tastings, private tours and events since 1998.  The Bradenton Times
  • Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones will perform live at Mattison's Riverwalk Grille, playing traditional blues — West Coast and Texas swing and early 1950s roots rock — for a night that highlights authentic rhythm and blues on the Gulf coast. Chef Paul Mattison’s venue is known for its focus on local ingredients and community support.  The Bradenton Times
  • Kettle of Fish will host a block party at Cortez Kitchen, a seafood venue on the water in Cortez—no cover is required for the live music. Led by Dana Lawrence, the band will bring its blues rock and soul sound to offer a relaxed evening of good tunes and fresh seafood—an event that promises a lively local gathering.  The Bradenton Times
  • The band Electric Soul Therapy—formed by Ronnie Dillon, Robert Rocka, Doc Harris, Matt Burke and Jarryd Thompson in summer 2019 and spring 2020—will perform at Woody's River Roo, a venue known for its gorgeous river view, friendly people, great food and good drinks.  The Bradenton Times
  • Sebastian Tenorio immigrated from Bogota as a child and was undocumented until he received Temporary Protective Status in 2012; he earned a business degree from the University of Southern Florida and learned sax, guitar, bass and singing to build his music career—he now performs at The Ugly Grouper Bar & Grill on Anna Maria Island, where live music runs Thursday through Sunday with free karaoke on Wednesdays.  The Bradenton Times
  • Acclaimed neo-folk singer Mariee Siou, known for her 2007 debut Faces in the Rocks, will perform at Fogartyville on Sunday, November 30 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) as she continues touring the US and Europe.  The Bradenton Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Green sea turtles are no longer classified as endangered thanks to decades of conservation work—local experts caution that numbers on our beaches are still lower than desired. Record nest counts of 16 on Anna Maria island set last year highlight progress and the need for continued protection.  ABC7
  • After months of concern over high bacteria levels in Palma Sola Bay, tests show that horses and birds are the main bacteria sources—human DNA was not detected above the study’s threshold.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bradenton Fire Department warns residents to follow safe cooking practices this holiday season as past data shows high rates of home fires on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Christmas Eve—urging people to stay in the kitchen, keep working smoke alarms, and have a fire extinguisher nearby. The department advises using safe methods when frying turkey or setting up holiday decorations to help protect homes and families.  The Bradenton Times
