COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bradenton’s Village of the Arts will host Small Business Saturday on November 30 to support local businesses and let locals shop for unique gifts at 15 galleries, shops and studios. Attendees will begin at The Village Patio at 1213 13th Ave W—picking up scavenger hunt entry forms, free coffee and lunch—and have a chance to win a prize bag that includes Bradenton Marauders game tickets and a visit from special guest Marty the Marauder.  The Bradenton Times
  • Bradenton’s Village of the Arts will host A Holly Jolly Village Christmas on December 5 and December 6 + live holiday music will fill the streets on Friday and festive shopping and food will light up the Village + on Saturday, Mayor Gene Brown and his wife will welcome visitors at TVM Gallery for photos and gifts.  The Bradenton Times

  • Floridays Woodfire Grill & Bar will host a Thanksgiving Feast on November 27 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 12332 Manatee Ave W where guests will enjoy a waterfront view, good food, and good drinks.  The Bradenton Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is rolling out 500 new automated external defibrillators that will soon be in patrol vehicles and facilities after deputies trained with the devices last week—civilians will also be invited to learn how to use them. The new AEDs deliver a shock 35 seconds faster than older models and will boost emergency response efforts.  WFLA
  • Bradenton mother Christine Olson is pushing for a nationwide emergency-contact registry tied to driver’s licenses after her daughter was killed by a drunk driver in 2005—she hopes the system will cut next-of-kin notification times from six hours to two minutes. Congressman Vern Buchanan introduced the TIFF Act to help states adopt the program that already serves over 21 million Floridians.  FOX 13 Tampa Bay
