  • Today in Bradenton, 83 families at Pines Trailer Park face eviction after hurricanes Helene and Milton damaged their homes and the owner moves forward with closing the park permanently—residents and the Homeowners' Association have filed a lawsuit to delay the evictions set for July 31.  Bay News 9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Bradenton officials said a 4-year-old boy died in a structure fire at 116 53rd Avenue West on June 15 while his 48-year-old mother suffered burns and was taken to Blake Hospital—investigators confirmed the fire was unintentional and no foul play is suspected.  ABC Action News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Al Donadi, a musician who has played live weekly on Florida’s west coast for 10 years, is set to perform at Siesta Key Oyster Bar while working on a new album. He recorded his last album at Spirit Ranch Studio with renowned Bud Snyder—continuing his strong ties with local artists.  The Bradenton Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Florida gas prices were $2.95 per gallon on Sunday, down 14 cents from the previous week with Hillsborough County averaging $2.96, and AAA said rising tensions between Israel—Iran led to a 13% jump in crude oil prices last week. Drivers began seeing higher prices on Monday, and further increases are expected later this week.  WFLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Phosphate mining projects are being reviewed using a 2013 environmental impact statement that many say fails to account for the cumulative effects on local waters and wildlife habitats—raising concerns about public health and environmental safety in the region. Glenn Compton from ManaSota-88 says an updated regional study is needed before any new mining permits are approved.  The Bradenton Times

  • Manatee County officials approved $3 million for emergency repairs on Lake Manatee Dam (the repairs will fill voids in the aging dam face). The work is scheduled to finish within the next 30 days (a measure taken after last year’s hurricane season led to flooding).  Bay News 9
